It has been suggested that, since Samoa's rugby team have apparently adopted the Haka (sp?), the English should adopt Morris dancing before their games.

Thoughts?

I just told a kiwi cow-orker that - didn't quite work though, she's no idea what Morris Dancing is.

The Haka is an attempt to induce fear in the opposing team. Morris Dancing - whatever one's own opinion - might be more likely to induce derision. Given the current woeful performance of the England team when the actual match starts, there's absolutely no need to make extra effort for that.

But If the opposition is incapacitated by hysterical laughter, wouldn't we win by default?

I totally vote for this. I'd be much more likely to be a fan if it were that entertaining.

The requirement for an accordion complicates matters: weapons are not allowed on the field of play.

if they did sticks it might work. There's just something about watching grown men hit each other with sticks to music that amuses me to no end.
