âœWhat is unbelievably depressing about the governmentâ™s response,â he said, âœis that they see, in the evidence about greenhouse gases, not an opportunity to promote environmental concern but a chance to make the case for nuclear power. ... Having made a big issue of the greenhouse effect, it became clear that energy efficiency was the best way to deal with it, but ⦠the governmentâ™s position has been characterised by a malign reluctance to have anything to do with the notion of energy conservation.â ( Who what when? )

The law of 6 degrees of separation means that you, Ocean Defender, know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows precisely where the whaling fleet will be in the next few months. We have our own methods of locating them, but this is always a very difficult task. If you know someone who works in maritime tracking, satellite imagery, the Japanese fishing industry, cetacean research, who's doing an ocean crossing in the Pacific or working in some other field that might have first hand knowledge of where the fleet will be, pass this message along. The ship we are seeking is named the Nisshin Maru, gross tonnage 8,030, length 130 metres, radio call sign JJCJ. She is the factory ship and will be accompanied by three catchers, Kyo Maru No. 1 with radio call sign JKNG, the Yushin Maru call sign JLZS and Yushin Maru No. 2, call sign JPPV. http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,1 Many of these hydrates deposits are chronically unstable and could be triggered to release into the atmosphere by any drilling. This isn't just a matter of extraction leakage or added pollution when the stuff's burnt (which would be bad enough), this is a matter of rapid release which could significantly increase climate instability in a very short time. That said, it could just all release without human intervention, but when sitting on a climate bomb the sensible thing to do is not to poke it.

In a stunning setback to the Bush administration's attempt to shut down Greenpeace, a Federal Judge in Miami has dismissed the government's case against us for exposing illegal mahogany shipments. http://www.greenpeace.org/international
