Anyone recommend a UK mail-order source for boardgames?

Hive AI notes Jan. 25th, 2006 01:58 pm
If you get a bug on top of the opponent's queen, you can place pieces directly adjacent to it...

(NB: AI is using version 1 rules though...)

Oops, shopping Jan. 15th, 2006 07:13 pm
Bought Hnefatafl, Lost Cities and Puerto Rico expansion. Dropped off poster & flyers for http://www.londongamelist.info/ . Bloke behind the counter agrees that Hive is a fine game. I left rapidly to avoid being overly tempted by the 3D special edition Catan + K&C (£275).

Playin' Games are looking for staff, BTW.

Spent much of the afternoon in the Apple store watching presentations while reconfiguring my websites; their wireless network was a bit shafted though, possibly due to the muppets using it for streaming video.

Gaming and comics Jan. 14th, 2006 09:48 pm
Couple of comics really spoke to me today:
http://www.ozyandmillie.net/2006/om20060113.html
http://www.comics.com/comics/pearls/archive/pearls-20060114.html

Played three games today; Hive, which is quick, strategic and interesting, Byzantium, which is slow, confusing and, well, byzatine (but might be worth a clearer read of the rules) and Ave Caesar, which is always a great laugh.

Was woken at 5 this morning by a fox barking outside the front of the house - gods but that's an unpleasant noise. Especially at 5am.

[info]bmovie last night was pleasant, although I didn't stay that late - good to catch up with a lot of people although the venue's still a dive. ('cos this is so classy...)

Re-plug Sep. 19th, 2005 02:44 pm
http://www.londongamelist.info/ - mailing list and website dedicated to board- and card- gaming in London. Slowly gathering members and info, but still needs a bit of a push.

I may try and produce some sort of small poster to stick in Games shops later, while I wait for info to come through from work.

Weekend, briefly Aug. 14th, 2005 09:39 pm
Friday: Bmovie. Great to see people, but FFS, sort the f'ing venue out. The Rats is turning into a "good enough for goths" dive - toilet doors that close and heating that turns off are not optional.

Saturday: Second Saturday - quick hand of Cube Farm followed by Vinci (Risk, but quicker and more balanced)
Party in the evening - [info]trishpiglet and [info]babysimon have a great place, and people seemed to be enjoying themselves. K was wiped though so we headed home early.

Today - overslept, but got a load of housework done - gets easier every time, and now even the cupboard under the stairs is organised. Received a new LCD monitor (thanks to [info]d_floorlandmine for picking it up) and now have an older IBM 18" CRT to get rid of - any offers?

Distinctly tired, but a brief update: BMovie was cool - seems that I know really rather a lot of the regs there now, which is good. Ended up getting the (2 hour-ish) nightbus route home (bloody busy, then when I get to Baker's Arms 4 38's pass in convoy!) and then up again (hence the start of this paragraph) for Second Saturday (about 9 there today - feel free to wave) where I had some good games of Coloretto, Gloom and Puerto Rico (tied for 1st).

Do I get the feeling more people would turn up there if it wasn't after BMovie?

Found that I play all of these games far too rarely and therefore takes me a while to get back into them each time - I need to play far more.

As for Dr Who (as I arrived home at 1903) - WTF? "Is that a laser pistol in your pocket or... Oh, wait..."

Oh...

(PS: What's the verdict on the new icon? ;)

Games, en bref Feb. 27th, 2005 10:33 am
Pretty good day, really :) I think we satisfactorily proved that the carrying capacity of our lounge is 10, those 10 being (gratuitous roll-call):
[info]aegidian, [info]asrana, [info]conflux, [info]cookwitch, [info]d_floorlandmine, [info]itsjustaname, [info]silenttex, [info]thekumquat, [info]wechsler, [info]valkyriekaren

Games were: Settlers (x2), Scrabble, Unexploded Cow, My Dwarves Fly, and Gloom. "War and Sheep" caused much comment but it's only a 2PG and didn't get used.

Contributions from Peter Sellers (never ask Karen about her David Niven anecdotes) and Versuvio Pizza rounded off a really fine afternoon / evening.

Bit zoned out now so I'm not really catching the frequent hilarity and lunacy of last night (who "warned" [info]itsjustaname about me anyway?), but I think it's going to have to be done again.

1) Do you play RPGs ?
2) Which ones?
3) Do you GM?

(brought on by reading ShadowRun "novels". Z-grade brain-candy, gotta love it ;)
