Today the code repository I installed when I joined the company ticked over to revision 1000, so I bought cookies for everyone. This proved to be a popular move. In less decimal-obsessive news, the entirely new codebase I started within that repository (we just have the one for all projects, for ease of tracking) has just passed into a functional (probably alpha) stage, which I'm rather proud of. We also found out we'd run out of chairs; we seem to have gone through one of those sudden growth spurts that happen around here. I don't actually know everyone's name at the moment.

I didn't even know ForecastFox *had* an "explodey thermometer" icon before today.![]() (Oh and the mains blew out just as I got in today, so I got to scramble 'round under desks turning everything off to get the RCD to reset - I think we're overloading the mains if everything tries to turn back on at once) ETA: Not just me either: BBC Midlands Today's weather team faced an unexpected problem on Wednesday - their graphics only featured temperatures as high as 32C and had to be remade with numbers up to 38. Having worn the same-style of black jeans, t-shirts, and boots since I got here, I have thoroughly confused my cow-orkers by wearing *different black T-shirts* for the last 2 days. Having pointed out that 1) I don't *own* any non-black clothes and 2) I'm a goth, they are all now trying to get me to answer the "What is Goth" question. I can only wonder if I should throw Mick Mercer at them. (And now they're emailing me links: http://www.goth.net/goth.html)

We're having a bit of a recruitment push here, so I thought I'd invite you all to take a look. Great company, challenging roles (in a good way), genuine interest in people and development. It's pretty hard work here but I really enjoy it. Mostly based at High Street Kensington. The current roles we have are at http://www.themindgym.com/jobs - more may follow. Any queries, feel free to ask me. # Relationship Manager # Online Product Leader # Head of Product Development # Product Development Executive # Collaborative Writer # Finance Coordinator - part time # Head of US Operations ETA: Might also have another PHP developer role!

Almost finished the Bloody Huge Project at work, and may manage a somewhat saner workload shortly. Thank [deity/profanity of choice]... On that note, keep an eye out for the next Mind Gym book in the shops (and out of curiosity, have any of you dealt with the company / read the book in the past?) Longer term, I need to move closer to work. The downside of this is that work is in the expensive heart of West London (it's on Kensington Square), which means that "near" involves a lot of the expensive side of Zone 2. Ideally I'm looking for a 30-minute commute door-to-door, and my calculations on a tube map seem to suggest this draws a boundary line on the tube map from Ealing Broadway down to Richmond, Wimbledon, Clapham, Brixton, Can anyone comment on good places to live in that arc? What's the travel like? Paying a bit more to live further in may be worth it if it helps me get my work done, as bonus percentages are insane at TMG. In the first instance I'm looking for a small 1-bed (but not studio) flat (on the basis that I don't need to spend much time at home, living in London), but I'm open to advice. Living nearer to people I know would be a plus, of course. Oh, and I'd prefer to be on the tube to mainline (down to frequency of service, because I'm no good at catching trains on schedule). Also, if anyone has any outstanding queries to me, please remind me and I'll try and catch up.

It's VERY COLD out there, and the fog's denser than a Sun reader. Today, MySociety lanuched http://www.hearfromyourmp.com/ and I spent my first day as a Technology Manager for The Mind Gym. It's going to be busy.

Good: finally getting started on paid work before 9am! Bad: running out of work by mid-day. Oh well, meeting tomorrow should supply more. And I can go tidy up the garden now.

Should I set up a filter for this? Looks like I might need to get on with updating CV and pimping earlier than I was planning! Not having removed my CV from sites when I started the last job (it didn't seem to be getting much attention) I'm still getting the occasional call from that - and they seem to be moving up a gear. As such I'm going to need an updated CV that much sooner, and also to be sure that I'm getting the full range of jobs to compare against if I get interviews / offers. Encouraging, though...
