Apparently the new cool terms of endearment are "complex conjugate" and "freemate".

("borrowed" from a friends-only entry by ardaniel)

Anyone fancy trying to compile the definitive list? ;)

Well no, that's 'cos it's a friends-only post. Which is why I made the comment here instead of trying to point people to it.

I'm confusing people again, aren't I?

'Freemate' sounds suspiciously Heinlein-esque to me...

Isn't it one of the games in the default windows installation?

Heh, yes, that would be the one where you have to pair up all your partners and partners-ofpartners with each other so that you can get a quiet night in?

I like the one where you have to pick people to do without causing people next to them to explode.

'complex conjugate' sounds grammatical.
"We are partners, you are lovers, they are fuckbuddies"?

I'm not sure what freemate ought to mean. It sounds like something you'd do in chess; "The Kipinsky Freemate Manoeuver".

"Complex conjugate" is actually mathematical, according to frozencapybara, who implemented it as a substitute for "significant other."

"Freemate," OTOH, is from Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover novels. The partner you're with by choice and promise alone, instead of by law/ for social standing/ for alliance.
