The only difference is that in some cases the technology worker's contidions are self inflicted. :D

to an extent. One of the problems is that some areas of the IT industry are massively oversubscribed, so people feel they have to work very hard and very long hours to prove that they're worth what they're being paid.
There's also a certain amount of geek kudos: "I stayed up all night finishing that bit of code, but it's bug-free now!"
