Equal rights plan for gay couples

Gay men, lesbians and bisexual people are to be offered the same rights as married couples, a government minister indicated today, although she said this will not amount to "gay marriages".

That's what the Lib Dems are saying. I don't see that it's nearly as important to achieve this notional consistency as it is to get the basic change in. After all, both religious and civil marriages already exist for those as want the legal bit. Who's willing to fight and die for something that would be vanishingly close to a civil marriage except have a different name?

But if we don't get this consistency in now, will we be able to get it in later? So yes, it is worth kicking up a fuss in my opinion; there's no reason I can see for the incosistency in the first place. A partnership is a partnership, regardless of the gender of the people involved.

Of course, I'd like to see it extended to multiple partnerships, but that is a substantially different issue IMO.

Its not good enough at all. Marriage should be possible for any two adults, regardless of gender. Making it a different process for same-sex and different-sex couples seems ridiculous to me.

i wont say much as i found it hard to understand the article in the state i'm in. but i agree with please_sir and i think its fucking rediculous people cant get married because of being queer. when i was younger i assumed it was all ok, coz i was naive and was disgusted to find out the truth. in fact more than that, i was hurt. i have from a very young age, said that if i was ever to marry, it would be a woman. this dates back to before i'd heard of gay people. so i am totally pissed off this is even still an issue. we are supposed to live in a civilised society! my arse! its all a pile of shit, all thats expected of us is for us to sit down and shut up. and i hope that by the time i actually seriously consider marriage it will be legal. not that i want a conventional wedding.
so much for not saying much! lol

Well, I agree that two peope of any gender should be able to get married if they want to, but I still cant understand why any person of any gender would want to.
