Three mounting brackets (two separate lights and a switch unit), two cables, three velcro straps... did Cateye design this blasted lighting system to be as awkward as possible to fit? Certainly, it's going to be impossible to remove it each time I leave the bike, which will probably lead to something getting nicked. My old set, for which this is the replacement model, just had one combined mounting for lights and switch, which could be slid off easily for security.

Why am I discovering this now? Because, having charged the battery overnight, I had to fit it this morning...

Yeah, I got out of bead the wrong side - woke up at about 8:30 with what felt like an oversleep headache (after going to sleep at midnight? that makes no sense...). I can't imagine it's a hangover, after how little I drank last night.

No matter - I have virtually nothing that needs doing today, except for a bit of housework... I'm now sitting here watching a program on crop circles, which like so many things shows a vast cloud of bullshit that has arisen over a small, genuinely unexplained origin... it's strange how, whenever something odd or fascinating appears (anything from art to religion), someone will go out and make an approximation by forgery, claim it as their own and thus swamp the original entity or intention. Is it a fear of the inexplicable that makes us go out and produce a facsimile, generally differing in a few small ways from the original, but with the benefits of an explanation that can be clung to without the need for any imagination or original thought?

It is the nature of any argument to polarise; environmentalists vs industrialists, science vs religion, left vs right, leading to a "lunatic fringe" and a plethora of straw men that can easily be knocked down by opponents, who then claim a moral victory without having tackled any of the difficult key details. It's unfashionable to be in the middle, calmly investigating when the verbal and psychological heavy artillery flies overhead between the extremists.

For those of you who are into rubber and chains...

I've created a UK Cycling community, which could conceivably be of mild interest. All suggestions welcome.
