|| Transsexuals' rights victory after 30 years

Transsexuals are to be given the right to change their birth certificates and marry in their adopted sex, after a 30-year legal battle.|
The part about existing marriages and the possibility of having to get devorced interested me. I was under the impression that an existing marriage became null and void when transexual had surgery, wether they liked it or not.
Is that not the case? Its been really hard to find any deffinate information, because the assumption is that you wouldn't want the marriage to exist anyway because it would out you. Personally, I'd be delighted if I could still be legally married after I have surgery. I would love the opportunity to be one of a tiny number of people who were legally in a gay marriage.
