Evidently there are lamers out there, no doubt hugely pleased with their pitiful selves, who somehow feel it useful of them to browse various goths/polys journals and anonymously attack them. I've yet to have one on my own journal but the trend is evident, so I'm turning off anonymous comments. If I know you, you don't have an LJ account, and you'd like to be able to comment on anything I say, email me and I'll send you an account creation code; I've got about a dozen going spare, which is oddly fitting.

Yes, the one on adjectivemarcus's journal (also on lizw and queerbychoice's) is very annoying, and no fun, which is a bad combination. Are there others too then?

our troll seems to have spread to gothslut's journal too. Apparently people who have clinical depression should just 'get over themselves' and are just looking for attention. Ignorant little dickweed.

The same one has also showed up on rmjwell's journal, I think.

Hmm. Are we sure this isn't NLBitch from alt.poly?

Has AOL account - check!
Thinks people with clinial depression should just 'get over themselves' - check!
Has a persecution complex - check!
Knows the geography of London - check!
Accuses people of lying on subjects that they are blatantly more qualified to speak on than she is - check!

Actually, the comments aren't really in NLBitch's patented eccentric English style, but everything else fits.

It doesn't fit so well with the fact that the troll turned up first in queerbychoice's LJ (not an a.p poster).

There are scores of the bastards, but as yet I've only seen what appears to be the one on LJ. You'll find plenty of them on places like indymedia, telling anyone who takes part in public demonstrations that they're "troublemaking little shits that the police should beat the fuck out of", apparently desperate to live in a police state where no-one has to show any independance or individuality. You'll find them on pagan groups, expounding on why we'll all go to hell, while unintentionally reminding us just why we got out of that religion. And most cowardly and despicably of all, you'll find them preying on the weak or upset; foul energy-vampires (not a literal term) that think they can gain from sucking out someone's self-worth. I've seen mental illness, and mental abuse, and what it can do - more than once. I've no space in my life to waste on these leeches; the information's out there if they truly wish to educate themselves, so I'll keep their crap off my pages and not have to repeat myself for their benefit.

I'm more upset than I realised, I suspect. See my previous friends-only post for why; if you can't, no offence, but this isn't a good time to ask me to add you.

Yes, that one does make me want to smash the little shit's face into a wall repeatedly, but I've found the strength of will not to tell it where to get off, because that's what it gets off on.

If this comment was intended for me - as I assume, it being a reply to my comment - I'm already in your friends list. And yes, I know why you're upset. :( Tentative hug from someone who doesn't really know you well enough for a proper one.

Sorry, that was a more general reply - obviously I wasn't at my most focussed last night, or I might have spotted that that wasn't clear.

Hug gratefully accepted. *hugs*

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot to add...

Hmm, I've not had any yet. I allow anonymous posts, but I have "Log IP addresses of anonymous posters" set - maybe that's why?

Of course, I wouldn't hesitate to delete the lot with extreme prejudice if I got any.

Well so had I, and so, it looks, do some of the trollees (yes I'm making up words now). I get almost no anonymous comments anyway - and I suspect this is the case for most people - so turning them off is really no loss, especially with a stack of creation codes to hand (of which I'll happily give a few to any friends with a free account).

I had it switched off for a while, but then I decided to wait until I got a problematic anon comment before switching it off.

I see no great shame if banning by IP removes all AOL users from my journal.

I'm always amused by people who whine (in these situations) about "Freedom of Speech" like it's something they understand or are entitled to. The analogy I like it "Yes, you have the freedom to shout whatever you like out of your bedroom window, but I have the freedom to close mine."

I was kinda hoping to bait the fcker some more, but they have nil sense of humor.

I haven't experimented with banning by IP...
