What's apxs do?

As I understand, it supports loading of external modules, eg PHP. Having had an outdated copy of it on the system yesterday and being completely unable to figure out why the server wouldn't load, it's not my favourite program at the moment.

If you mean the mess of directory adjustments for apache then nor would I - I was trying to match the previous installation, which in fact I had to rip out in the end anyway.

The excess of shared gubbins was due to trying to get the PHP DSO to load, which was in fact being fuXX0red by the stray version of apxs that had snuck in.

I should probably tidy it up later, but I'd still be interested to see that chapter.
