Thinking of buying a DVD (re)-writer as a home backup system. Anyone got any recommendations on either models or the maze of standards?

Whatever you buy will be out of date in a few years so get something cheap and cheerful, -r/rw should do, and you can get one for about a 100 squid internal.
Alternatively go out and get one of the super-duper super-drives that does DVD-R/RW & +R/RW and RAM, and probably french toast.
I'd recommend my burner, but as i've yet to use it due to it being still being in the wrapping paper it was given to me in, i can't.

Not me personally, but talk to chocojon or jikatal, in that order. :)

... just to say that I have an HP DVD Re Writer - and its DVD-R...

IIRC thats supposed to be the "better" standard writer than DVD+R (For reasons many and alsorts).

Sony's DVD re rewriter is a + & - R standards IIRC...

Do you want internal or External?

You'll need Firewire or USB 2.0 if thats the case...

But I certainly can't fault my HP drive...

Is it cool for Linux then these days?
