The BBC today announced a new angle on its gardening shows; the new series "Green Flag" will set fruits and vegetables against each other in competitive events.

The first episode will feature the "Legume Olympics", featuring beans, peas, and lentils in track and field events.

A spokesman said: "This show promises to set pulses racing".
