Video Cards? Jan. 4th, 2004 06:11 pm
OK, seeing as the lappy's ded™ and will likely be away for repairs for some little time; I need to make this desktop more usable; that requires getting a rather more modern video card than this.

Minimum requirements (from my most demanding game) are:
(Nvidia GeForce 2 or ATI Radeon 7500) or better

Personal requirements:
DirectX 9 compatible
Suitable for large photo manipulation
As cheap as possible.

Note to self: check available slot types on the mobo

Recommendations anyone? Who makes the good cards these days?

Looks promising - they only did memory last time I looked, but I've bought plenty of that from them.

So far I've had no problems with the graphics card I got from them.

I've been advised by a few people that ATI Radeons are superior for gaming to the NVidia cards at present - I'm in a similar situation of not knowing what the hell to get, but in my case it's because my parents have finally remembered last year's xmas present - a promise of a new graphics card.

As far as image manip goes, I don't really have any ideas. If nothing else, let me know what you decide as I could probably use any advice I can get myself :)

About this time last year the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128Mb was looking like it was the best value. I got one from aria.co.uk I've had no problems with it.
