Good article - have passed the site on to colleagues in the office who have an interest in such things.

Yeah, it is a pretty decent article. Glosses over a few important points, but it's decent, in that it doesn't roundly condemn either side more than the other. I guess that's what passes for fairness with regards to reporting on that region of the world, these days.

But, I have to ask, if the Palestinians are so oppressed, why haven't any of the neighboring Arab countries done anything to help? Lebanon doesn't allow Palestinians living within its borders to own property; Syria flat-out refuses them entry; Jordan expelled them in the 1970s; Egypt won't do shit either. It's not as though the Israelis want them to stay in the West Bank or Gaza Strip; they haven't made any move to expel them, but I doubt they'd shed many tears if they all decided to pick up and leave. Many have, in fact, tried to leave for their neighbors, only to be turned away. Why? Could it be that the neighboring Arab countries LIKE having a displaced population of Arabs threatening Israel, so that they can covertly try to "drive the Jews into the sea", as they failed to do before, overtly?

And, what happened to the millions of dollars of foreign aid sent to the Palestinian Authority by the UN, the US, and Israeli itself? Money intended to pay for schools, infrastructure, policing, and such. In that part of the world, a million dollars is a LOT of money. Where is it? Ask Yassir Arafat. He's a multimillionaire. His people are starving, but he's got all kinds of money. Plenty enough to buy craploads of weapons from Iran and have them smuggled in...like that shipment interdicted by the Canadian warship two years ago. Funny how nobody talks about that anymore.
