The cry for our times should not be: "Won't somebody think of the children?"

I once heard a comedian talking about this. He said that when he was planning to start making TV appearances etc, he wrote to the agony column of a tabloid newspaper 'confessing' his love of spanking and other BDSM practices. Predictably, the agony aunt wrote back saying something like 'not to worry, plenty of perfectly normal people enjoy that sort of thing, it's nothing to be ashamed of'. So if the papers got hold of it years later, he'd be able to hold up the letter and say 'Yes, I know! And you said it was OK!'.

The cynic in me despairs: "Can't anyone (except a vanishingly small subset) think?"

5% of the people think
10% of the people think they think
The other 85% of the people would rather not think about it.

Therein lies the trouble.
