One of the reasons why George Bush has refused to restrain Israel's treatment of the Palestinians is that his political allies in the Christian Coalition believe that the Rapture - the first stage of the Apocalypse - cannot begin until the Jews have taken posession of the lands decreed by the Bible to be theirs, after which they will be converted to Christianity. By supporting Israel against Palestine, they believe they are hastening the Apocalypse, and hence their own exaltation.

you just had to bring it up, didn't you? I'm reposting this from my journal. It makes an appearance yearly, much to my delight.
is an urban legend
, but the developer of this concept is really quite funny. Well, so are those that are caught up in the "rapture", but man...
What a laugh! What a story! Still makes me laugh two years later.
To add to the frivolity, the g/f thinks that it ISN'T funny and gave a sigh of relief when she found out that it wasn't true. She was glad no one was really hurt, etc. I had to excuse myself and go have a creative moment in my shed so I could have a REALLY good laugh. Shit like this just cracks me up. I was then forced to lie and say that I had hit my hand with a hammer which is why my eyes were red. The pain brought tears to my eyes.
Excuse me while I go have ANOTHER good laugh.
