The amount of tax I've paid on my salary looks a bit much. However (on the basis that both lots got paid at once) by treating both the salary I failed to be paid last month, and this month's salary, as one month's for tax purposes (instead of 2 months) I get within 20p of the amount paid.

You'll probably get some of it back with your next month's salary, or will pay less tax on it. Wouldn't worry unless it looks like you're being consistently overtaxed.

As long as the two months don't span more than one tax year, and you are on a cumulative tax code (i.e. not a month 1 basis code) you should be fine.

The situation with NI is more complicated...
