Having just got an ADSL service that gives me 8 IP addresses, I'm not entirely sure that my Netgear DG824M can actually function without NAT (ie as a pure router).

Does anyone know anything about this, or can you recommend an (ideally cheap) ADSL modem/router that's suitable for my config?

Note Zen forums suggest not: http://www.zensupport.co.uk/knowledgebase/article.aspx?id=10048 (that covers the next model up from mine and has a key difference!)

Alcatel Speedtouch 510. Assuming it's Zen you're on now, you'll have to download a configuration file from their site to make it work, but it works very happily.

Eww- config via windows software... something I'd rather avoid. Thanks for the suggestion though - and yes, I'm on Zen now.

No no no - it's not Windows software. Its a plain text file containing the configuration settings that make it happily work with Zen. The Alcatel speedtouch 510 is configured via http or telnet. I never went anywhere near Windows to configure mine.

Seconded. (Well, OK, I did use Windows, but I wouldn't have had to. I could have done it from my Risc PC if I'd wanted to.)
