but the idiots who harass station staff and bus attendants when there's tube trouble (and yes, it was well fucked tonight) *really do* expect them to pull busses out of their arses.

I know this, because I asked one. She thought she was performing some sort of public service by whining at the attendant, because "people in this country don't complain enough". I replied that if she genuinely expected her complaints to acheive anything, she should direct them to a higher level, ie Ken. Apparently this concept fell outside her mental faculties and she stoppped talking at this point.

I, on the other hand, was extremely glad that I keep a bus guide in my rucksack.

And it also appears that, while it took me an extra hour to get home, I achieved this feat in about half the time it took the SMS I sent to let Karen know of the delay. (It just got here)

"People in this country don't complain enough"? So she wants to live in France?

People in this country don't complain enough

That's a meta-complaint though -- it is clearly out of bounds.

If she means complain as in "write to someone who can do a damn thing about the situation", then no, but if she means "whinge in a bad mannered way" which is what she was actually doing, then I'm afraid the British do have a reputation for that already :-/
