"secret" ballot? hmmm...

When I voted (either in 96 or 00, forget which) the poll worker wrote the *serial number* of my ballot down next to my name in the poll roll book. That really unsettled me. Now, the serial seemed only to be printed on the tear-off stub that you gave the guy working the exit after you put your ballot in the box, but it still unsettled me.

And let's just leave off the Florida-bashing for oh, 15 minutes or so? Some of us are getting a complex or something! :-)

Ponder the fearsomeness of a swing state's swing districts in the "hands" of Diebold's uber-machines.

Contemplate the fascistic hammerlock the "two major parties" have on the getting-on-the-ballot process, and how hard it was for Badnarik, Nader, Peroutka, Cobb, et.al., to get their names printed with the Lesser Shrub and (as referred to somewhere or other) The Celery Golem.

Lastly, consider that, apart from occasional outbursts of The Blessings of Gridlock, the overall trend regardless of which "major party" holds the White House has been the steady increase in the power and pervasiveness of the Federal government at the expense of state soverignty and individual liberty.
