So, our beloved rulers have pushed through the IT card scheme anyway, for reasons no-one can understand, mainly because they haven't been provided. However we can still fuck up the scheme (like government IT schemes ever needed the help?) so I call on all IT workers to refuse to work on the project.

If there's a reasonable response to this I'll set it up on PledgeBank.

There are plenty of people out there with no interest in politics, I'm sure they'll have no trouble finding staff.

That said, I wouldn't work on it personally, so I'm happy to sign a pledge to that effect.

I wont work on such a scheme. A pledge bank for this sounds good. :)

No, better I think to be on the inside, building in security and privacy features beyond the requirements of the legislation/contract.

You think that they'll let you?

Okay, wishful thinking.

I will sign such a pledge, and I propose a second pledge to pay into a fund to cover living costs for those who lose their jobs or lose wages/JSA through refusing the work.

I'd not work on it. Not just because it's illeberal and an expensive piece of sticking plaster. But because it'd be deathly dull.

I wish people wouldn't however assume that all government IT projects fail and that all private ones sail through. Not true, just ones much more in the public eye than the other...
