I heartily agree; you shouldn't be allowed to fight until you can get drunk, you'll probably need it.

I agree with the point that anyone old enough to decide to fight for a country should also be considered old enough to vote for its leaders and drink alcohol. I tend to think it's the drinking and voting ages that need adjusting downwards, though, not vice versa.

From what I remember, we got an exemption to under 18's joining the armed forces, but we're still not allowed to send them to the front line.
At least we did sign the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Two countries hadn't last time I looked, Somalia and the USA.

Sounds about right. There was a story last year about a 17 year old girl who got airlifted off a RN carrier when it was going somewhere, post twin tower destruction. She was pretty pissed off IIRC.
