"CIRCLE LINE (ANTI-CLOCKWISE): Minor delays are occurring due to lack of available trains."

OK, *how* do they manage to lose them? And what ratio of spares do they have? And why is it always the Circle?

ETA: Oh, no delays now... I presume they found more trains, possibly down the back of the sofa?

(Viccy's got Signal failure instead. *Don't* get me started on the "functional redundancy" rant)

Oh, I always assumed they weren't lost, just spoken for. Y'know, already committed to someone and not looking for anyone else. Hence not available.

No no no, don't be silly. It's obvious: a couple of trains broke up with each other. Now there's plenty more fish in the sea.

Slightly less impishly, I do think it'd be better if announcements gave deeper reasons for annoyances than the immediate proximate causes. So you'd get announcements like:
  • We apologise for the delays, which are occurring due to a lack of proper investment in the rolling stock.
  • This train has been cancelled as a result of an enormous scheduling cock-up.
  • There will be no further service on this line until tomorrow because of chronic underinvestment in the infrastructure over many decades.

Slightly less impishly

Careful Doug, fatherhood may be mellowing you...
