Drive recovery (not mine, thankfully) Dec. 7th, 2007 02:09 pm
One of my colleagues has suffered a fairly catastrophic drive failure on their laptop - the FAT seems completely scrambled for a start - and has no backup of the data.

Can anyone recommend a company/method that might recover his data without causing him complete bankruptcy?

The difficulty is going to be mounting the drive: I have a USB box that's essentially an IDE cable and a power supply - very useful for old hard drives, and for backups - but it's not the form factor for laptop drives.

You can get 3.5" to 2.5" IDE adaptors which might work with the USB to IDE convertor. IIRC my partner paid about £2 for one on ebay a few years back and some random geek might have one.
